         OntheEnergy& SafetyContradictionofEnergeticMaterialsandtheStrategyforDevelopingLowsensitive
         HighenergeticMaterials

         Abstract:Energyandsafetyarethetwomostimportantconcernsinthefieldofenergeticmaterials(EMs).Anditisuniversallybe
         lievedthatthereexistsaninevitableandinherentcontradictionbetweenthem:thehigherenergygoeswiththelowersafety,i.e.,
         thesocalledenergyandsafety(E&S)contradiction.Thisarticlediscussesthecontradictionincombinationwithmanycounterex
         amplesshowingthatthecontradictionisnotalwaysthecase.Itisfoundthatthecontradictionisstructureleveldependent:onlyon
         thelevelofmolecule,theE&Scontradictionappearsmostnecessarilyandremarkablyasaninherentone;while,onthehigher
         levelsofcrystalandmixture,theE&Scontradictioncancertainlybealleviated.Moreover,wethinkthattheenergyandsafetyof
         EMsareoriginatedfrom asenseofmorethermodynamicsandasenseofmorekineticsofchemicalreactions,respectively,and
         thustheE&Scontradictionisathermodynamickineticone.Accordingly,westressagainastrategyfordevelopingEMs,i.e.,the
         natureofincreasingtheenergyistoincreasethechemicalenergystoredinmoleculesandtoenhancethemolecularpackingcom
         pactness;while,theprincipleofenhancingsafety,orreducingsensitivity,istomakeexternalstimulimoreandmoreinsufficient
         toigniteEMs,throughcrystalengineeringandmixingtechnologies.
