Abstract:A novel cage-like energetic compound, 4,4,8,8-tetranitro-2,6-dioxaadamantane, was synthesized from 9-oxabicyclo[3.3.1]nona-2,6-diene through four linear steps involving oxidative cyclization, oxidation, oximation and gem-dinitration. Its structure was characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR) and elemental analysis (EA). X-ray diffraction analysis (SC-XRD)was adopted to further confirm its crystal structure. Meanwhile, its thermal stability was determined by differential scanning calorimetry‐thermogravimetry(DSC‐TG). Furthermore, EXPLO5 was used to predict detonation parameters. The results prove that 4,4,8,8-tetranitro-2,6-dioxaadamantane has a crystal density of 1.75 g·cm-3 and crystallizes in the monoclinic system, belonging to space groups P21/c. Furthermore, its thermal decomposition temperature is found to be 190.6 ℃. In addition, its theoretical detonation velocity is 7705 m·s-1, and detonation pressure is 25.75 GPa.
